2.22: Should Have Known

I think I’ve ripped out about five pages from this thing in the past ten minutes. Every time I try to write about what happened, what I saw, I just… can’t.

I mean, my baby, my little girl was…

Oh God.

Okay, okay. I’ll try to focus on what happened AFTER, I guess… Not that it’s much better.

Looking back on it now, I realize that I really should have known all along. And, to be honest, I think part of me already did.

I just didn’t want to believe it until I saw it with my own eyes, I guess.

But God, I wish I hadn’t.

I felt like I was going to be sick. I didn’t stick around to see or hear anything, really. Thank God. But I had to get home. I had to find my wife. Jade and I had to figure out what to do about this – what to say to talk some sense into Mari.

But when I told Jade what happened…

You aren’t gonna believe this.

1

Apparently I “invaded our daughter’s privacy” and “should be ashamed of myself” because “Mari can take care of herself” and it’s “none of my business”.

Seriously?!

2

I’m supposed to be perfectly fine with the fact that my own daughter is…

I mean, that she’s acting like a…

Well, I’m not going to write it here.

Anyway, when I tried to explain myself to Jade, she got even more mad. Started making all these wild accusations.

I can still hear her now: “If that’s what you think of Mari, then what the Hell did you think of me when we first met?!”

3

Oh God, did she really have to go there?!

Jade just doesn’t get it – this isn’t the same. This is our daughter. And I don’t care what Jade says — she’s NOT just having fun. There’s something really wrong here. This isn’t our Mari.

And it’s not just that she’s… doing… whatever… It’s the way she talks to us. Or treats her sisters. Or misses work all the time. This behavior… It’s all connected. It has to be.

But do you think she’d listen to me? Of course not.

I guess things just sort of fell apart from there. Jade went to bed angry, and I turned into the bad guy.

4

Am I seriously supposed to be okay with this?

Doesn’t she get it? We’re losing our daughter… Hell, maybe we have already.

And I guess I’m the only one who can see it.

    1. Yeah, Alex is kind of stuck right now. 😦 It’s a complicated situation. And Jade is definitely feeling defensive right now, so that’s not helping either haha

  1. Yeah, I can see Jade connecting this situation with her past and being defensive, but she is not seeing that this isn’t about her past its about her daughters present and its not the same at all…Sorry Alex!!

  2. I can see why Jade is defensive, she was bound to take that one personally. But just because she sees a part of her old self in Mari doesn’t mean that Mari is her. I hope she eventually finds a way to detach herself from the situation enough to realise that her daughter needs help… for everyone’s sake!

    1. Yes, yes, yes! (Insightful as always 😉 ) She’s definitely not seeing the situation clearly right now, she’s just getting defensive about it. Mari’s behavior is toxic in a way that hers was not. Maybe eventually she will see it? :-/

  3. Man…Alex looks JUST like Krysti in that last picture, and in some strange way when Krysti makes that face she looks a lot like Mel to me.

Anyway, I’ll join in on the bandwagon here. I’m still totally on Alex’s side here, but Jade does actually have a point. I get that he’s curious and concerned about his daughter, and he should be. But she’s an adult now, and she deserves a little more privacy. However, she IS still living in her parents house and they deserve a little more respect than she’s giving them. But, I know she’s going through some things and isn’t in the right frame of mind to recognize if what she’s doing is healthy or right.

    1. Oooh now that you mention it about that look, I see it! That’s actually cool! Hahaha.

And as for the rest of your comment, I completely agree! I was waiting for someone to point out that Alex is not 100% in the right here hahaha. He followed her and got involved in her business. Which was not really “right”. But, of course, like you said, Mari is doing really bad and unhealthy things right now, so of course he’s concerned and trying to do what he thinks is best to help her. This is a complicated situation right now (especially if you throw Jade and her feelings into the mix too). I feel like they’re all partially “right” and all partially “wrong” too… (But Mari wins the “wrong’ award, I think… XD) Thank you for reading and for your insightful analysis of the situation!

      1. Is it wrong that I kinda wanted to see that argument ensue (sp?) between Alex and Jade? I kinda want him to answer that question LOL. I must have gotten up on the evil side of the bed today. he he he

  4. Awwwwwww, poor Alex. 😦 I do hope that, eventually, things can work out for him, that jade will see what’s really going on here. 😦

I’m still in that moment where I hope that Mari does get pregnant, without knowing who the father is, just to show how bad it really is. But, at the same time, I hope she doesn’t. She’s not even remotely ready to have a child…

But Jade does have a point, I guess. I mean, she doesn’t see that it’s not the same thing, but still. She does have a point.

    1. Yeah, this is a weird situation where both Alex and Jade have good points. They’re both kind of “right” and kind of “wrong”. It’s hard!

  5. Poor Alex! Everyone is making him look like the bad guy! But Jade is right, she did the same thing and he didn’t really care. Man Citizen, why do you have to do this to your poor sims!! Hugs to Alex!

  6. This chapter is heavy. 😦

After all, both Alex and Jade have good points, and neither of them are really the bad guy. Taking sides is difficult, if not impossible.

That said, I feel like Jade is blind to just how destructive her daughter’s current choices are becoming. :/

    1. Yeah, this is a really tough situation. No one is 100% wrong or right, but like you said, Jade definitely isn’t seeing things clearly right now either. 😦 I am just really cruel and mean. Hahaha

  7. Alex made some cute sad faces. I want to hug him.
About Jade… Shouldn’t she feel more protective over her daughter? I mean from the world not from Alex. Even she must see that Mari isn’t doing it just for fun, but for a darker reason. Going from a heart-broken girl locked in her room to fulltime slut (pardon my language) is clearly wrong and anyone can see that. As a mother she should know better.

  8. Aww… I kind of feel bad for Alex, but at the same time, he had no right to follow Mari around town. She is an adult and she can actually take care of herself. He just needs to learn to accept that. But still, it can’t be nice to see your daughter do those things. I can imagine that no parent wants to imagine their child having sex.

    1. This is a tough situation for everyone! And you’re right, he was not right to follow her! I mentioned to someone before — everyone is partially right and partially wrong right now I think haha. Thank you so much for reading!

  9. Maybe Jade will be more reasonable after she sleeps on it. I agree with Alex, this isn’t ‘Parthius’ (is that how you spell it!?) behavior, this is ‘completely messed up Mari’ behavior. Honestly though, Jade, surely you can see that this isn’t your little girl! And… Just curious, what traits did Mari roll?

    1. Outgoing (Mari never had a lot of friends, but I try to portray her “outgoing” as “not afraid to speak her mind” haha especially when she was a child), Neat (the only trait I don’t write her as. My one hint about it was on her first date with Diego when she was saying how gross/dirty the water at the Bluffs was), and Hot-Headed (which I write a little bit more like “mean” haha). I rolled all of them when she was a child so I would know where she’s headed/how to work the traits into the plot (hot-headed works soooo well for this storyline haha), and also try to maybe incorporate some traits early (like hot-headed XD).

      1. Outgoing and Hotheaded don’t surprise me. Neat does – I didn’t pick up that hint. I thought she was maybe romantic or Non-committal because of her current behavior, but no! 😀 Thank you for satisfying my curiosity! 🙂

  10. I feel so bad for Alex. Jade, special magic pixie dust is coming from me. I understand that she took it personally, but I hope she’ll be reasonable on this. I just feel like I should go to Jade and have her sit down and have a talk with her.

  11. Poor Alex 😦 I can understand how Jade is looking at it, but there are some things that just shouldn’t happen. Like when Mari FINALLY brings one of these boytoys home…even then Mom probably won’t care…

  12. I have to side with Jade on this one. He overstepped his boundaries. However, this is a negative coping skill. She’s going through some rough stuff and needs help, but snooping and taking away her sense of independence is not the way to go! :3
    I’m invested.

  13. Okay, scratch that about Mari’s mum understanding – she’s a little TOO understanding about the meaningless “fun” her daughter is having. Adorably-concerned Alex is actually the one on the ball here.
