6.25: Pretty Awesome

Alright, this thing is way overdue for an update. It’s literally been like, a month since I wrote anything in here. I feel like the older I get, the more I forget to use my journal… And it’s been even worse this year.

Back when I was a kid, I wrote in my journal at least once a week. Sometimes more. It was like I always had something awesome and exciting to start bragging over, or something super annoying to whine and complain about.

And there are still really awesome things in my life I could write about. And really annoying ones too. Plenty of them.

Being so busy lately definitely isn’t helping with the whole writing thing… But whether I’m busy or not, sometimes typing out a passive-aggressive Facebook post is just way more convenient than spilling my soul in here. Or a lot of times, I end up talking to my friends about stuff. Venting to them. That’s probably the best way to deal with shit these days.

Still… I’m glad I keep this thing lying around. It can be nice to get your thoughts down on paper sometimes. “Therapeutic”, Papa called it once. I really had no idea what he was talking about back then. But I think now I do.

Anyway, the point is, I’ve got a lot to talk about. And it’s mostly good stuff, I guess.

First off, let’s talk about work (Yes, you read that right… work! I know I haven’t gotten a chance to talk about it yet in here). It’s been… surprisingly okay, actually.

I’m still holding up my end of the bargain (passing all my classes and holding down a part time job), and my parents have been holding up theirs — not bugging me about uni anymore (for now, at least…).

I think my Oma was the one behind it. She’s always been trying to convince my parents and I to compromise about uni. And as much as I didn’t wanna have to get a job, it sure beats being forced into more years of classes and homework and tests and all that crap.

They called me in the living room a few weeks ago to talk to me about it. I’d just gotten another passing grade on an algebra quiz, so they were in a really good mood. I got a big speech about responsibility, and they told me they were proud of me for ‘proving myself’… whatever that means.

Then they said they understand why I don’t want to go to uni, and that they won’t ask me about it anymore… As long as I keep up all this ‘responsibility’ by getting a job.

Okay, the chance to finally get my parents to lay off? How could I say no to that?!

Anyway, now I work downtown at the drugstore two days a week. And I’ve gotta say, the job itself is pretty boring. Mostly restocking shelves with crap and ringing out customers who start talking super loud if they ever catch a glimpse at my hearing aid. It’s so dumb.

Thankfully, there are plenty of things about the job that are way less sucky. Like the fact that Nyla works there a few days a week too. Our schedules usually end up overlapping on Wednesdays after school. That’s helped make things way more bearable. We may not be best friends anymore, but we still get along pretty well. And we don’t really talk too much at school these days, so it’s nice to get a chance to catch up a little.

Another awesome thing is… Well, the store’s a freaking goldmine of stuff to swipe. And working there makes it so easy. I mean, I’ve gotta be careful. I know I do. And I’ve been trying to cut back a little… But there are just some days when I need it. Especially when Katie’s been a total bitch or my teachers were super annoying. It makes me so mad and stressed and I just can’t deal with it.

And when it gets that bad, there’s only one thing that really helps.

I know that sounds… weird, but taking stuff just makes me feel so much better about everything. It’s like for one fleeting moment, I actually have control over something in my life! What could be so wrong about that?

Stealing’s just never been a big deal to me… It helps me out, and it doesn’t really hurt anybody either. But I know no one else sees it that way. They don’t understand. That’s why I can’t really talk to anybody about it — not even Rylie or Devin or Erik.

But speaking of those three… Well, that’s the other thing that’s pretty cool about my job. The drugstore isn’t too far from Erik’s apartment, or that old alleyway where me and Rylie and Devin like hanging out. I can walk to both of them from work in less than fifteen minutes. I was so afraid that having a job would really mess things up, and make it harder to hang out with them. But in a weird way, it’s almost easier now.

And the best part is when all four of us get together.

I finally got to introduce Erik to Devin and Rylie a couple weeks ago, right before I started my job at the drugstore. They hit it off really well, I think. Rylie definitely warmed up to him right away. Devin was a little more distant, at first. But it didn’t take long for them to start getting along too.

I was a little nervous at first. I mean, Erik’s got a couple of friends who are in their first year at uni (like Paul), so they’re only a year older than me. And obviously he has no problem hanging out with me too. But I still wasn’t too sure how he’d feel about adding more ‘kids’ my age into his friend group. Know what I mean?

But it turns out I had nothing to worry about.

And I think Rylie and Devin are enjoying the perks of being friends with someone Erik’s age too. I mean, he can buy us real alcohol whenever we want. He has his own apartment, so we can hang out without having to worry about our parents (super convenient now that it’s so cold and snowy too! Our alley’s like an ice rink right now).

Sometimes he even invites us over to hang out with some of his other friends too… usually to throw back a few drinks or smoke for a while.

Obviously drinking and smoking aren’t all we do though.

Erik’s brother gave him his old couch a few weeks ago, so he’s finally got some extra sitting room at his place. Perfect for when Dev decides to bring over some of his video games (Rylie usually just watches though, since she sucks so much. Ha!)

We’ve had some pretty epic movie marathons too. And I really love those moments, actually… Sitting there with them in the dark… The quiet. Sometimes when no one’s looking, I’ll reach up and turn off my hearing aid for a little while, so I can tune out the movie and just kinda enjoy being with them, y’know? Throw back a beer or two and just lose myself in being so close to them…

Anyway, the point is, things are actually pretty awesome right now. My parents have backed off with the whole uni thing. I’m passing all my classes, thanks to Erik (and Devin still saving my ass in History!). My new job is bearable. And most importantly, I have the three most amazing best friends in the entire world.

Of course, mom and Papa still don’t know about one of them.

Now, when he asked me about it, I kinda-sorta told Erik my parents don’t mind me hanging out with him. And I keep having to make up excuses about why he can’t come over to visit, or drop me off at the door after we hang out…

But what else can I do? He’d think I’m some stupid baby if he knew how overprotective my parents can be!

I know there’s no way they’d be okay with me hanging out with a guy Erik’s age. And they’d probably die if they knew about the smoking and stuff (thank God for Oma’s eye drop advice! Of course, she probably thinks I’m just smoking with Rylie and Devin… I haven’t told her about Erik either. I can’t. Not after that weird talk with her and Tante Clara).

Anyway, I’m still glad she hasn’t told my parents about it. I just know I’d get a giant lecture about the “dangers of drugs”, and probably end up under full-blown house arrest or something. Which is so stupid! I mean, it’s just like when I swipe stuff. I’m not hurting anybody (I mean yeah, smoke probably isn’t great for my asthma… but we use a bong most of the time anyway. It filters out most of the crap that’s bad for you!).

And if they think the smoking’s bad, I don’t even know what they’d say about the party next weekend. Tomorrow’s Christmas Eve. And then, in one week, Erik’s throwing this crazy New Years Eve party at his place. He says it’s gonna be insane. And coming from him, well… Who knows what it’ll be like?

I’ve hung out with him and a few of his friends plenty of times. But an actual party? That’s kinda Rylie’s thing, I guess. That’s usually where she hooks up with the guys she messes around with.

But this will be so different. It isn’t gonna be some dumb kid party full of lame guys from school.

It’ll be a real party. With awesome music and tons of booze and all kinds of amazing people. It’s gonna be the best night ever.

And I can’t wait.

  1. Why can’t I help but think that Harper would fit in with the shoplifting community on Tumblr? (yes, unfortunately, that exists 😡 )

Let’s see how her stealing doesn’t hurt anybody when it costs her that little job of hers, if not worse.

  2. I’m glad she’s sorted out the Uni-No Uni argument. But I think she’s going to get fired/arrested if Nylah or her bosses find her stealing. I’m glad Rylie and Devin are there for her (I still think Devin is in love with HR). I’m scared about how this party is going to go.

  3. First, you made a little typing mistake just above the picture of Harper and her parents. Besides that, i love the chapter. It Was long which Was great. And it seems like she is doing pretty good on some things. But tbh i’m disappointed in rylie and Devin.

    1. Thanks, I’ll fix the typo 🙂 And yeah, depending on your opinion of Erik, I can see feeling disappointed in them. We will see how things go from here! Thanks for reading 🙂

  4. I don’t know…for some reason I think the party will be ”insane” but not on a good level. And Harper definatly is klepto ( duh, is one of her traits.) in a way she feels…better, when she steels stuff. I don’t think steling things from the place you work are going to help, Harper, they might realize that some stuff is missing, and you can’t play the ”pity” card forever…

    1. “Insane” might be right… find out Wednesday whether it’s a good or a bad thing hehehe

And yes, Harper is a true klepto. It’s a full-on addiction for her 😦 Very dangerous….

  5. I can see how this would all be very cool to Harper. I really relate to her; I think she’s seventeen, and that’s how old I am. Not with the stealing, but with the reticence over uni (though I am going) and the need to rebel (I have done a few dumb things in the past). Is the big Weds chapter about the party? I think so.

    1. I’m glad you find her relatable! 17 is kind of a difficult age (as I think you probably know first hand right now!) lots of stuff to figure out, and sometimes that figuring out includes some bad decisions too. But that’s all part of growing up too! The question now is HOW Harper will grow up, after what she’s been through…

And yes, the big Wednesday chapter is indeed the party! Gonna be interesting for sure 😉 Thank you for reading, Azzy!

  6. “Silently banged” 😂 yup! Pretty sure she’s had plenty of fantasies about all three of them by now anyway hehehe

And yes Zayne, break it the brownies and let Harper add a special ingredient 😉

  7. Oh Harper, things are going to happen at this party that you aren’t ready for. 😏 Shades of Zayne. Like father like daughter, only somehow I think this party is going to be worse than throwing up on a couple getting it on in the bathroom. 😂 I can’t help but laugh remembering that epic moment!

Sadly, Harper may be the one getting it on in the bathroom, but with who? And will she want that? She looked all cozy with Erik watching movies. But she calls them friends in her journal so is there still another person, Paul comes to mind, that will make a move on her….😳

Ready for that party – now!!! Lol…

    1. Hehehe sorry, gotta wait 3 days 😦 I love all your thoughts about what could go down at the party! It’s the giant 4000-word chapter, so there’s a lot that could happen!!! ^_^

      Thanks for reading, Audrey!

  8. Guuuuurl I see that couch 😉

But damn, Harper, how can you keep so many secrets 😭
I don’t think they’ll be upset if they knew about Erik… He’s a smart dude that tutors her and helped her grade. I mean, she could always leave certain stuff out. And Erik doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that–wow my phone suggested “played the hobbit” hahhaha
Wait, what was I saying? Oh right, I don’t think Erik would make a big deal out of it.
…though I totally understand the whole “my overprotective parents are embarrassing” thing since mine definitely are 😂

But her sticky fingers are getting worse, huh? I recently read something about how stealing can also stem from psychopathic behavior the other day LOL

(don’t kill anyone at the party Harper, your parents aren’t gonna take that well… But then again, they might help you move the body since they’re super protective 🤔)

    1. Hehehe yes, Erik suddenly needed a new couch… It is a nice couch. Very roomy and comfy 😉 Tehehehe

And yes! These lies and secrets are so dangerous… And totally making things worse. I agree that if she was upfront about the Erik thing, it probably wouldn’t be an issue. But now that she’s already keeping it a secret, well, she’s just begging for things to go wrong!

And yes, those sticky fingers on top of it all! Hopefully not a psychopath… But hey, anything is possible hehehe

  9. Erik and his sneaky arm-around-shouldering…

Harper may not realize what’s going on, but clearly Erik has a thing for her. I just hope that he really is a decent guy, and not pushing Harper into something she’s not really ready for. They aren’t that different in age, but when you’re in high school, someone in university is in a totally different place in their life.

Worse still, I worry about Paul being at that party. I notice he’s still hanging out with Erik.

Like a previous poster, I still think Devin has a thing for Harper, and maybe always will. Hopefully if the party causes trouble, Devin can help her out. Of course, as I commented in another chapter, high school romances rarely work out, so it won’t surprise me if they’re never really together. It just seems like Harper and Devin are more alike in what they want out of life right now.

Also… With all the smoking and drinking, I wonder if Harper is maybe letting her illicit activities get in the way of her dream of becoming a published author? Work and school and having a social life are busy enough, but she’s not going to be at her best for writing if she’s stoned or drunk. I mean, I’m sure she FEELS super creative when she’s stoned or drunk, just like I feel like I’m a creative genius when I’m super sleepy. In reality, though, you’re impairing your ability to do your best, not just in terms of polish, but in terms of the originality and depth of your ideas. You think you’ve come up with the best idea later, and then when you recover you look back at it and you realize you’ve seen that somewhere else, or it’s just plain nonsensical.

    1. I like your analysis about Erik and Devin’s feelings for Harper… all I can say right now is that we will get more info about that on Wednesday 🙂 It is the longest A2A chapter ever, so a lot will happen!

Also, interesting thoughts about how the alcohol and drug use could affect how Harper is able to write too! Thank you so much for sharing (and reading!)

    1. That is a really great question…. Harper definitely has a somewhat questionable moral code. But would she go as far as letting her former friend take the fall? As you said, hmm…

Thanks for reading & sharing your thoughts, Maladi ^_^

  10. Shoplifting at her own working place? That’s just plain stupid. There is just no way she can get away with that for long. She is going to have her life ruined because she needed to get her head away from stupid Katie the Cruel, she is acting so childish. And I kind of wish that upon her. Getting the results of her misbehavior, learning not everybody will be as forgiving as her parents. And Nyla would know it, even if she isn’t a close friend anymore it wouldn’t be easy for Harper to see her back off in disgust.

At least Hope and Zayne gave in on that uni point (after a lot of long talks, I guess). After all that pressure being fine with Harper working as a clerk is surprising. But I guess they think it will teach her responsibility and she will soon learn a nicer job would be something to work for and make something out of her not too bad grades.

It is good Rylie and Dev seem to get along with Erik the meth… eeh math guy. They can tag along, make sure Harper can be safe. Not that Erik would be pressuring her into something, but they are her friends, they can’t really know, and thinking of this Paul guy I am glad Harper has someone besides Eric at her side. Not that he can’t protect her from Paul, but there is a difference between being the new and youngest peer in the group or two groups slowly mixing up. It will make things easier.

But even if the age difference isn’t too big, the difference between school kids and uni students is there. It is not the age that counts, but the way students are treated. They are seen as adults, get adult responsibilities, and trying to fit in they act more and more like (mostly childish) adults until they finally grow into that role. In school teenagers are still treated like kids, even if they are already adults in their last year, and so there is no need for them to mature, no need to let go of teeny temper tantrums.

    1. You are so right about Harper being stupid and immature (like father like daughter, right? LOL). She doesn’t realize the hole she’s digging herself into right now…

We are gonna get Zayne’s perspective in a future chapter about why they wanted her to get a job, actually 🙂 Since I agree it seems surprising they’d stop pestering her for just a clerk job. Answers are coming! 😀

I agree that having Rylie and Devin in the group kinda makes the blending easier between the younger and older kids. Definitely right about the difference in maturity level between them though! We’ll see if that has any impact on this newfound friendship!

      Thanks for reading, Luna 🙂

    2. Personally, I’m thinking if she ruins everything for herself with that job, she might end up needing to go to university anyway. Otherwise she’s going to find it hard to get another job.

  11. Did Harper inherit her mom’s awesome abs and arm muscles? Damn girl!

Ooooh I can’t wait for the party! In an ideal world I’d want Harper and Erik to get, y’know, friendly 😉 and have a wonderful time, but I’m kind of thinking it will be much, much more dramatic than that.

I still think the biggest problem in Harper’s life is not the older boy she’s hanging out with or the fact that they’re smoking/drinking, I’d say the biggest issue is her addiction to stealing. It’s an unhealthy coping mechanism and though it’s fairly innocent now, it could get her in a lot more trouble when she’s older. Not to mention that it indicates that she doesn’t quite know how to handle strong emotions and tries to find a physical outlet for them, which of course could translate into much more serious stuff later on (where drinking and drugs may become an issue).

Imo, Erik seems like a pretty good guy. He’s had plenty of opportunity to try something with her and so far he hasn’t. I also think he would totally back off if Harper made it known that she wasn’t read – if he even likes her that way (I hope so!). His ‘friend’, Paul, on the other hand, is a different issue. I must say I’m worried what will happen if Harper becomes intoxicated and runs into him with nobody around.

    I can’t wait for Wednesday’s chapter!

    1. Haha good eye, sonnie! Harper inherited Hope’s body, which means a totally empty fat slider and nearly full muscle slider 😂 So she’s twig-skinny, but also ripped. Not even sure how to justify that in-story other than good genes lmao

This stealing thing is definitely the worst of Harper’s problems right now. You’re so right! Erik seems to be a really great guy, even if he can be a bit of a bad influence too 😉 (same can be said about Rylie and Devin, right? Haha Harper likes to surround herself with edgy people who have hearts of gold hehe)

Glad you are so devoted to your ship and are looking forward to Wednesday! Thanks for reading, as always ^_^ You are such a dedicated reader and I appreciate it very much ❤️

  12. I really can’t wait for Wednesday’s chapter. However I’m getting nervous, and Harper hanging out with older men makes me think of her Tante Clara’s experience. I certainly hope that’s not the case, but I don’t feel very good about this party.

    1. I’m glad you’re so excited! ^_^ Though your nervousness is also understandable at this point hehe… we will see in a couple days! Thank you so much for reading ❤️

  13. Yay!!!! I finally caught up!!! And what an amazing whirlwind it has been! I’m so happy that Hope and Zayne are together, happily married with such a beautiful little girl ❤

My heart breaks for them with how hard it was to conceive. Especially since recently my cousin was 7 months pregnant and went into early labour. Sadly little Myer passed away in the birth canal. The funeral was really hard, but the father and his side of the family did an incredible Haka to farewell her spirit. I could feel the anguish 😦 It was a beautiful funeral though. Myer is very loved ❤

Harper is incredible! She has a lot that she's going through the poor girl ❤ I just know that everything will work out fine in the end. Her parents love her unconditionally ❤

I'm very excited to read more 😀 She will have many ups and downs, but I believe in her! Go Harper!!!

    1. Ahhhh! Nessy, I’m so glad you’ve finally caught up ^_^ and it means a lot to me that you’ve taken all that time to read!

I’m so sorry to hear about your cousin’s baby 😦 My heart goes out to them and little Myer! It’s gut-wrenching when families have to go thorough that. But it sounds like your cousin has a very loving and supportive family on both sides to help them through ❤️ I hope they can heal and will be blessed with a healthy baby in the future.

Thank you for loving my girl Harper so much. Like you said, lots of ups and downs incoming for this one haha But yes, her parents do love her, so much. 🙂

      Thanks again, Nessy ^_^

      1. Thank you so much 🙂 I hope they one day are as well, I know they’ll make amazing parents ❤

It's my pleasure! I found it hard to stop reading XD I'm trying to get used to having to wait for the next chapter now, I've been so spoiled being able to go from one to the next LOL!

And OF COURSE she works at the drug store. This is all gonna come tumbling down any day now.

Also could you tell where’s Devin’s hair from?
I’d love to have it for one of my male sims c:
