7.25: Dream Come True

“Hey… Gigi?” Phoenix’s voice was accompanied by the soft click of the television turning off. “Can I talk to you about something?”

Gigi barely heard his question.”Mmm?” She hadn’t even realized that she’d nearly drifted off to sleep against his shoulder.

Still worn out from earlier, I guess… Gigi’s lip curled slightly at the memory as she finally sat up.

Phoenix had been growing more and more comfortable taking on his new role in the bedroom lately. He was so strong and powerful and aggressive…

And Gigi loved it.

She never would have imagined she’d find herself so into being dominated like that… It just felt like it was time to try and spice up their sex life a bit. She’d suggested they start trying it on something of a whim… And it ended up being perfect.

Gigi loved seeing Phoenix take control. It was like there was this hidden part of him that she’d finally managed to coax out after all these years. It was such a thrill to let herself be completely at his mercy. To let him use her body however he pleased. To let him be the one calling all the shots for once.

She’d been so nervous when she’d first broached the subject with him… But of course, Phoenix was more than willing to give it a try. She knew he would be. Gigi was certain there was no other man on the planet who could ever treat her as well as he did. He always gave her anything she wanted, no matter what. All she had to do was say the word.

He was the sweetest, most giving man in the entire world. And he was all hers.

How had she ever gotten so lucky?

“What’s up, baby?” She asked through a small yawn.

Her boyfriend took a long, nervous breath. “Um, there was just something I wanted to talk to you about… It’s kind of important, and, uh…” He shook his head, almost laughing. “Sorry. Let me try that again.”

Gigi felt her heart leap as the pieces quickly came together in her mind. He was being so cute and awkward and nervous… and he said he had to talk to her about something important…

Oh my God! This is it!!!!!

It was all she could do not to squeal in excitement. She’d tried her best to put the thought out of her mind, but she’d known this was coming ever since that night at the restaurant last week.

Jasper’s cryptic comment about ‘big news’, the way Tam had not-so-subtly tried to cover for him… Gigi had done her best to pretend she didn’t notice. But she knew exactly what it all meant.

And it made sense — She and Phoenix had been together for four years now. She still technically lived at home with her parents, but she spent so many nights a week at his apartment, they may as well have lived together.

They’d both be graduating with their Bachelor’s Degrees in just a few short months. A new chapter of their lives would finally begin…

So why not begin it together?

It would be like a dream come true — spending the rest of her life with the man who gave her everything. The sweetest, sexiest, most incredible man in the universe.

Okay, act surprised. And don’t cry! She told herself firmly. Oh, who am I kidding… of course I’m gonna cry. I wonder what the ring looks like… I hope he knows I like white gold… Gah! Focus! Worry about the ring later.

For now, all she needed to worry about was the amazing man who was about to ask her the most important question of her entire life.

“Gigi… I got some news the other day that I really need to tell you about.” His nervous voice called her back to the present. “It’s good news, though!” Phoenix assured her. “Or, um… it might be. Maybe not… that’s kinda what we need to talk about…”

Her brow furrowed in confusion at his words. News? This certainly wasn’t the way she’d envisioned him asking her. Where was he going with this?

When she remained silent, he continued. “I got an acceptance letter from one of the Master’s Programs I applied to. It was one I really didn’t think I’d get into, but I really, really wanted to. So uh, it was kind of a surprise.”

“Oh, that’s great!” Gigi did her best to hide her disappointment. She was happy for him, of course. And really proud too… But what about the proposal?

Maybe he’s still building up to it… Or maybe he’s gonna wait til graduation or something. She told herself. Nothing to worry about.

Phoenix smiled nervously at her. “Yeah… It is pretty great.” He agreed. “Like, ‘dream-come-true’ level.” He let out a small laugh that sounded forced. “There’s just one problem, I guess… The program I got into? It’s… It’s at Brindleton Bay University.”

Gigi was silent for a few moments as she tried to comprehend what he’d just told her. “Brindleton Bay…” She repeated softly. “That’s in the United States, isn’t it?”

He nodded slowly.

“And… how long is this program? Like a semester or something?”

Phoenix shook his head. “Two years.” He replied softly. “Unless I do my internship there too… then it could be longer…”

It felt like someone had slapped her across the face. Gigi was silent for several long moments as a white-hot burst of rage began bubbling its way into her chest.

“You were planning on moving to the other side of the ocean and you didn’t tell me?!” She cried at last.

“I’m sorry.” Phoenix’s face fell. “I just didn’t want you to worry if you didn’t have to! I honest-to-God never thought I’d get in. You can even ask Tam and Jasper.”

Tam and Jasper… “They knew about this?”

“Yeah. I didn’t tell anybody else though… not even my parents. Like I said, I just… I really didn’t think it was gonna happen. But… I guess it did.”

“Wait… The other night at dinner… THAT was the ‘big news’ Jasper was talking about, wasn’t it?” A joyless laugh passed her lips. How was it all going so wrong?! “I’m such an idiot. You all had this ‘big secret’ you were trying to keep from me, and I thought…” Gigi shook her head slowly, already feeling her eyes beginning to well with tears.

“You thought what?” He asked softly.

She continued shaking her head. “It doesn’t matter, does it? Obviously you don’t care what I think if you’re planning on moving halfway across the world without telling me!

“I am telling you though!” Phoenix cried. “What do you think I’m doing now?”

“You know what I meant! How could you keep this from me for so long, and then just drop this on me and expect me to be okay with it?!”

“You’re right. I fucked up. I should have told you sooner.” Phoenix’s voice was pained. “I’m sorry.”

Gigi tried to take a deep breath. She could already feel her temper slowly slipping out of her control. The last thing she wanted to do was make their fight even worse. But she was just so angry.

She’d been sitting there expecting to hear a promise to stay by her side forever.

Instead, he was trying to leave her.

“Well, you’re not going.” Gigi’s voice shook as she spoke. She felt so foolish saying the words aloud — like a selfish little girl. “You can’t. You can’t leave me.”

“I’m not leaving you.” He promised. “It’s only two years…”

“Or more!” Gigi replied harshly. “Isn’t that what you said?”

“Maybe three, tops…” Phoenix admitted. “But I mean, even if I do go, it won’t change anything. I still love you. More than anything. And we’re still gonna be together.”

“Yeah? For how long? You know what happened to Bryce and Meg…”

“Hey, we aren’t them, okay?” Phoenix looked at her almost desperately. “We’re gonna be okay. We’re gonna make it work.” He assured her.

She shook her head. “You can’t know that. I’m sure that’s exactly what Meg told Bryce too.”

Phoenix ignored her comment about his friends. “Gigi, I love you. And we’ll be fine. I’ll come back home for Christmas. And in the summer too… I promise you, we’ll make this work.”

“God, you sound like you’ve already made up your mind. Don’t I get some kind of say in this?!”

“You do! That’s why I’m telling you… I have two weeks til they need an answer.” He explained. “And I didn’t decide anything yet, okay? I’m just saying if I go… I think we’ll be okay.”

At last, Gigi’s tears had finally begun to fall. “You think? I thought you said you promised.”

“I do! Th-that’s what I meant.” He replied hurriedly. “I do promise… Fuck. I messed this up so fucking bad. I’m sorry, Gigi.”

Gigi finally rose from the couch, feeling as though she were in a daze. She’d planned on spending the night at his place, but she needed to get away. She needed time to clear her head and figure out what she was gonna do.

“Look, Phoenix, I’ve gotta go.” She said softly. It took all her strength hold back all the angry things she felt like saying to him. I’d just make it worse… As if that’s even possible. “I just… I need time, okay? Maybe we can talk more tomorrow or something.”

He looked as though he were about to cry too. “I get it.” He replied. “Take as much time as you want, okay? And I really am sorry.”

Gigi sighed and began heading for the door. But she found herself hesitating for just a moment. “I love you, Phoenix. I wouldn’t be so mad if I didn’t.” She told him softly.

“I know. And I love you too.”

She choked back a sob as she finally reached his front door. If you do, then why do you want to leave me?

  1. She thought he was going to propose. I can see why she was upset. Then he drops the bomb. Maybe they can work it out. It’s not but three years. If you love him let him go.

    1. Yeah it turned out to be pretty much the opposite of what she was expecting 😬

Hopefully they can figure out what to do! I think she needs some time to process first.

  2. Uh oh….Phoenix done messed up. I feel bad for both of them. We knew this wouldn’t go well. No surprises dude. If she says he can’t go, will he stay? That’s not gonna work for either of them. He may become bitter. They are so sweet together! Nooo. But does he have it in him to go without her?

    1. Yeahhhhh he should have told her way sooner. But this kid tends to avoid conflict like the plague 😂

It’s hard to say what he’ll do from here. You could be right — if she seriously tells him not to go, he may cave and stay. And if he does, that may not end well in the long run… 😬

  3. Dark WitcHazard: Ladies and gentlemen the Rosebrook curse at work! Ah such a lovely chapter for crushing despair I love it!

Ani Shipper Doesn’t matter how long you think about it he has already made up his mind that’s why he didn’t say anything til the last minute it’s s tactic to force you to but seem selfish and be okay with the decision and helps him feel less guilty!

Lover WitcHazard: Gigi I get what you wanted to happen but just because it’s been four years doesn’t mean anything! Marriage has to be a topic before hand you have to have minimum of atleast five major talks about marriage with one potentially turning into an argument! Then there’s the kiddo talk whether you want to have them or not, can you have them or not, if so how many, if not are you both comfortable with that decision? Where do you want to live, how economically sound you are what does your finances allow? If over the course of the four years you never sat down and actually talked about your future and I’m not saying two young adults spitballing about what the want their future to be I mean real talks then I can totally see your pain if not then you already fell into the false expectations trap so this relationship may already be doomed!

    Shipper WitcHazard:Not my Phigi😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭!

    1. Ha! I’m glad Dark approves of all the despair around here 😂 and Anti has a point… it definitely sounds like Phoenix may have made up his mind! 😬 But we shall see…

And Lover is being very practical! Haha I think marriage is something that’s come up vaguely for them, but they’re both so young (only 21 right now) that I think it was something they never thought of super seriously… until Gigi got that expectation in her mind, that is… whoops 😬

      1. Lover WitcHazard: You see they’re so young, they haven’t given it a lot of thought so why would her mind go to marriage! I mean I guess Pheonix does have the Rosebrook fortune to fall back on but I think he’s trying to find his identity separate from being a Rosebrook and the best way to do that is to go off and discover what he can do on his own! They’re young they should be exploring their options! But I do feel bad for Gigi four years is an obvious investment into a relationship but sometimes investments don’t always work out! Plus she’s only 21 so she could definitely bounce back from break up at his age! Hope it doesn’t happen even though I kinda want it to!😝

  4. Poor Phigi! I hope she won’t tell him he can’t go for real. He should go for it! Unfortunately he doesn’t have Clara to give him advice on long-distance relationships.

Also, to hopefully make you laugh, the irony of this is I’m taking wedding pics of my sims and took a break to read this. xD

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha Gigi definitely wishes that was happening to her right now!

It’s hard to say what Gigi will say or how she’ll feel once she calms down… but we will find out in the next chapter! And yes, Clara and Florian were able to make king distance work for a little while, at least!

  5. Okay, if you’re expecting a proposal, then this is bad… But Gigi, be proud of your man! I don’t blame Phoenix for waiting to tell her. He probably didn’t even think he was good enough to get in, poor him…

Btw, ever since your Jocelyne-gen. I can’t wait for my sims to go to uni for real! Aaah!

    1. It’s true, she should be proud and is maybe making it too much about her :-/

Hopefully we will get real university someday! That would be epic.

  6. “For now, all she needed to worry about was the amazing man who was about to ask her the most important question of her entire life.”
Miss Gigi, if you think a proposal is the most important moment of your life, I am sad for you, and also wonder if maybe you shouldn’t leave this relationship and go out to experience more of life; your happiness and identity should not be wrapped up in your marital status, that’s fucked up my dear.

“God, you sound like you’ve already made up your mind. Don’t I get some kind of say in this?!”
I get it. She’s ‘controlling’, and selfish… and there’s Phoenis apologizing where he shouldn’t. No, woman, you don’t get to decide what this man does with his life; you don’t own him.

Just remind myself they’re young, and the relationship power is unbalanced, and try to leave the room without setting anyone’s hair on fire…

    Liked by 5 people

    1. Haha well I don’t think Gigi thought of it as the most important MOMENT of her life, just the most important QUESTION, like she said. Since the answer to the question is pretty life-changing in many aspects. I get what you’re saying though! But I think she’s just experiencing the normal excitement of someone young and in love and thinking they are going to take a very big step in their relationship. I assure you she sees a lot more to life than just her relationship! She values her career a lot too, which we will see more of later.

You are right that she has a bit of a controlling edge to her though, with a bit of a power imbalance too… hopefully once she’s calmed down she can think more clearly about this.

Plz do not set their hair on fire. It took a long time to pick that YA hair, okay? 😭

  7. That’s badddd! I can see why she’s so angry, she thought he was going to pop the question! Who wouldn’t be dissapoined? It’s a pleasant surprise that Gigi tried to hold some of her anger, rather than letting it allll out, like most ( characters) people do.

I get where she’s coming from, but, haney, it’s HIS life, if you truly love him, and want what’s best for him, let him go, if he wants to!If he stays, and booom goes the relationship, he surely would end up bitter, because he lost his long-life opportunity because of someone that isn’t even with him.

It would be interresting if Phoenix somehow founded a way to get her to live with him ( non-ilegal way, idealy, thought it would comical to have Gigi hiden in a backpack), and she refuses, as she would lose her job, and he would be like: ”So, I have to say no to a dream job because of you, but you can’t do the same for me!?”

    Just a thought.

    1. LOL! Gigi in a backpack 😂😂😂

And yes, she actually was holding back a bit! Even though she was still really mad… I think deep down she knows you’re right — it’s his life and his choice. But it hurts 😦

  8. Glad Gigi held it together and didn’t roar at him with her white rage!

So…Phee is just going to run off without her? And he thinks that relationship can survive three years of long distance? Huh. Good luck. I’m with her…he’s basically leaving the relationship. It has almost zero chance of surviving and he’s a little wimp by not telling her (but I understand he’s an avoider of confrontation.)

Sigh…I wonder how they’ll fix this mess!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah haha she was really mad but held back (even though she already laid into him pretty good! Haha)

Phoenix is blinded by love right now. He’s trying to convince himself that he can have both — the educational opportunity of his dreams AND the girl of his dreams too.

And as for being a wimp… okay, a little bit 😂 But he also genuinely did not think he’d get in, and he knows Gigi — he knew she’d flip out. And I think he wanted to wait and not have her flip out like that if she didn’t “need” to…

A mess indeed 😬 We will find out in the next chapter what Phoenix decides!

        1. She has the hot-headed trait, so he has reason to! 😂😂😂 Thankfully she isn’t easily set off by tiny things, but when she is… oh boy LMAO

  9. I AM SO FUCKING TORN!!! I want him to go, but they need to stick together!!! They’re my new Kinky-as-fuck Ship that’s so shiny. (Or was). Fucking hate you right now, Citizen.

  10. Four years and they’re not even living together? Is that a red flag? I’m a lesbian and we’re proposing to each other after two weeks so I may be a bad judge here, but it feels like a long time to not even have an apartment together. Oh, Gigi. Waiting another 2-3 years when clearly this is important to you is gonna suck. I expect some broken hearts.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahaha welllll my fiance and I were together for 6 before we moved in together? 😛 But I do know that by most people’s standards, that IS a long time!

And a 2-3 year long wait while he’s overseas would be even worse, you’re right! 😦 Maybe brace yourself for some heartbreak… but hopefully not????

On Monday we’ll see what they decide to do from here… Thank you for reading, as always! ❤

    2. I guess it depends on your age. If you’re in your early 20’s I think it is perfectly reasonable not to live together even after 4 years, especially if one or both are still studying.

It all depends on what you’re comfortable with though 🙂

  11. Compassionate AJ: That’s cute that she thought he was gonna propose, but you should wait a little until you get married you’re in your young 20s. He loves you and wants you to be happy.

Angry Mama Bear AJ: Gigi! How dare you yell at my baby Phoenix? He is the redeemer of the Rosebrook family. This is his chance to succeed. I get you’re upset but don’t punish him for dreaming big. He took gamble and fortunately hit jackpot.

Shipping AJ: They can survive this right? They both love each other!

But in all seriousness Gigi shouldn’t take this to heart. Long distance is hard but it can work (HoZay). If you’re determined to make it work it will. Great job!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahaha glad that you can see many sides to it! It’s a tough situation for sure… And hopefully once she’s had time to calm down, she’ll be a little easier on Phoenix and be happy for him instead!

Long distance can definitely be hard… it’s something they’d have to work very hard to overcome! Maybe they need to have another discussion about this and figure out a game plan…

  12. Ooh I’m so conflicted. I totally get where both of them are coming from and I also think they both handled the situation less-than-perfectly. Props to Gigi for taking the time to cool down, though.

I don’t want to be a Phigi-hater but honestly, I hope Phoenix does end up going. It is the chance of a lifetime. If he and Gigi are truly meant to be together I have faith they can make it work. If not, well, heartbreak sucks but staying with someone who you secretly resent for ruining your future sucks more.

Idk man, this situation sucks for all those involved!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah, this is so hard for both of them! 😦 And you’re also right that neither one of them handled the situation the best… whoops. Haha

Tomorrow’s chapter will reveal what Phoenix decides! No matter what, it will be a tough choice, I think! 😦

  13. As a person who literally has her bags packed to move to Belgium for a year for school, I can confidently say that Phoenix has fucked this whole thing up.

For the people who mattered to me, and this decision mattered to them, we spoke at length about my dreams to try this. I got their feedback, and answered all the questions.

Only AFTER that did I finally apply to the program and go through the whole process to move. They’re still sad, they’ll still miss me, but they don’t have the feelings of being lied to and unconsidered on top of the feelings of being abandoned.

Oh Phee, how are you gonna fix this? I’ve got some ideas, but they’re extreme.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah he most definitely should have talked to Gigi about this ahead of time. Not to ask for permission, but at least to give her advance warning and explain himself… instead of dropping it on her like a huge bombshell. It definitely didn’t help at all! 😦

He genuinely did not think he was going to be accepted to the program, and he feared starting a big fight when it wasn’t necessary… but that probably would have been favorable to this!

  14. I’ve been with my boyfriend for over two years (been friends even longer) and it’s been entirely long distance. We make do visiting every now and again and videocalling almost every night.

It’s hard, but not impossible. We love each other just as much as we did the first day if not more.

Everyone is different, but I’m rooting for Phoenix and Gigi 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your boyfriend! ❤ I love that you guys have managed to make it work, and you are living proof that Phoenix and Gigi can do it too! (Assuming he actually goes… we'll find out soon what he actually decides!)

Thank you again (and thank you for reading!)

  15. Poor silly Phee. I feel bad for him-it’s always easier to avoid the conflict, whether that’s the right thing to do or not! I hope this time he stands up to her and goes on to school! Glad I don’t have to wait to find out. 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah, Phee is very much about avoiding conflict! But… now it’s kind of biting him in the butt! You are lucky you don’t have to wait to see what he decides 😉 Hehehe

Thank you for reading (as always!)

  16. Ah, she thought the same thing I did, obviously. I feel for her, I do, and her reaction is pretty understandable… but I also really don’t care (sorry, that’s a bit harsh). I’m sure he does care for her and she makes him happy and all, but I just can’t say I’m particularly invested in her. I mean we got a whole chapter from her POV and yet all I know about her is that she likes rough sex. Which is cool, but not a lot to go on… so my ability to sympathise is limited.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha it’s fine, Gigi is…. hmm… gotta think of how to describe her. She is very intense. She knows what she wants, and she goes for it (though, as Phee learned in the last arc, she may have some more insecurity than she lets on too). That’s part of what Phoenix sees in her — he admired her confidence and strength.

We will see more of that as the gen moves forward!
