6.92: Interlude – All Yours

Fuck. Come on. Calm down! Harper shook herself mentally as she pulled the bathroom door closed behind her.

This was what she wanted. Dev was what she wanted. There was no question about that. So why the hell did she feel so terrified?

Jesus, this is just like what happened with Ivy. She sighed softly to herself. But at least this time, her panic was settling in before they actually did anything.

Her heart sank slightly at the memory of Ivy. Could that be what she was so afraid of? That being with Devin somehow meant that she didn’t love Ivy anymore?

No, she decided. It wasn’t. Harper had already made up her mind. She’d chosen to move on, and be happy. She knew that no matter what happened, a small piece of her heart would always belong to Ivy. And Devin knew that too. And yet here he was, loving her anyway.

And that made her love him even more.

And maybe that’s what she was so afraid of. Loving him. It would change everything. And the thought terrified her. It made her question everything.

But then, wasn’t that exactly what had happened with Ivy? She was too scared. She let herself hold back. She never told Ivy how she felt… And then it was too late.

It was something Harper would have to live with for the rest of her life.

And she wasn’t about to make the same mistake again.

“Hey.” She said softly as she stepped into Devin’s bedroom. She found him sitting on the edge of the bed, his shirt still off. But Harper noticed that he did not smile as she entered. “Sorry for keeping you waiting.”

“It’s fine.” He assured her. “But… is everything okay?”

Harper took a seat beside him on the bed. “What do you mean?”

“I dunno… I guess it just kinda feels like you were panicking or something. Like maybe we went too fast?” Devin replied uncertainly. “And I totally get it. If you’re not ready, we don’t have to do this, Harper. I’ve waited this long, I can wait a little longer.” The corner of his mouth twitched as he spoke.

“No… I want this. I seriously do. And I’m ready.” She bit her lip for a moment. “I’m just a little nervous. Because, well… Um… Remember what you said before? About how it felt like you were falling in love with me all over again?”

He nodded.

“Well… that’s kinda how I’ve been feeling too. I mean, after all this time, I think I finally…” She paused, shaking her head. “What I’m trying to say is, I love you, Dev.” Harper had told Devin she loved him countless times before… But she hoped he understood that this time meant so much more.

Devin’s eyes lit up instantly at her words. “You do?”

She nodded. “And that’s what makes this so scary… I mean, this is gonna change everything between us. And I just don’t wanna mess everything up.”

“I know. I get it. I’m a little scared too, I guess.” He admitted softly. “But we’ve gotta give this thing a shot, don’t we? We’ve made it this far already…”

“Yeah, I know. You’re right.” She replied. “And I want this so much. I really do. I just felt like I had to tell you why I was freaking out before… This is pretty fucking terrifying, y’know?”

“I totally get it… But you know that I love you too, Harper. I always have.” He smiled gently at her. “That’s something that hasn’t ever changed. And no matter what happens, I don’t think it ever will.”

Harper shook her head. “You can’t know that.”

“Oh yeah?” His lips curled into a smile as he closed the distance between them. “Try me.”

But there was still one last, nagging thought in the back of her mind. “W-wait!”

Devin flopped back onto the bed, groaning. “Okay, you’re seriously killing me this time.” He laughed.

“Sorry! I just…” Harper sighed softly. She needed to be honest with him. “I’m kind of scared for another reason too. Like…” She took a deep breath. “Look, Dev, I haven’t slept with anybody in almost a year. And I haven’t slept with a guy in… Oh God.” It was over three years now. “The point is, I’m super out of practice at this whole sex thing. And… I just really don’t wanna disappoint you.” It felt so foolish to say out loud, but Harper couldn’t help it.

To her surprise, Devin laughed. “Harper, are you serious?” He sat up as he spoke, still chuckling to himself. “You could never disappoint me. Trust me.” He reached out, taking one of her hands in his. “But for what it’s worth, I’m kinda worried about disappointing you too.”

“Ha! No way!”

“What?”

It was her turn to laugh. She knew that Devin was much more experienced with sex than she was. “Oh, come on! I still remember you telling me and Rylie about all those girls you banged at uni… And that’s not even including all those orgies you probably went to up at art school too!”

“What do you mean ‘all those orgies’?” He asked with a shrug. “It was just one.”

“Oh my God! REALLY?” Harper snorted. “I was kidding about the orgy thing!”

“Oh…”

She nudged his shoulder playfully, still giggling. “Okay, there’s no way you can just leave me hanging like this! What was it like? What kind of crazy sex moves did you learn?”

The way he smiled at her sent a flurry of butterflies through her stomach. “Hmm… What is it you writers are always saying about explaining stuff?” He leaned forward, whispering in her ear. “Show, don’t tell… right?”

It all happened so quickly then.

The next thing she knew, Devin was pushing her back onto the bed, practically ripping the rest of her clothes from her body.

In mere moments, her skirt and his pants lay in a tangled heap upon the floor.

Devin got to work almost instantly then, running his fingers and tongue over practically every inch of her body. It was enough to drive Harper absolutely wild with desire.

But she needed more.

And Devin was more than willing to deliver.

Even years later, Harper would always remember that night as the hottest, most passionate night of her entire life.

It was everything she’d always imagined it would be… And more.

As sexy and romantic as it was, their rendezvous wasn’t without its share of awkward moments too. But Harper loved every single one of them. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d laughed so hard during sex. They were so comfortable with each other, and neither of them tried taking things too seriously.

And, though he’d been quick to dismiss her teasing about his sexual prowess, Devin wasted no time in proving to her the extent of his skills. He knew exactly when to be slow and gentle, and when to allow his passion and hunger to take over.

He was so powerful, and passionate… It was incredible. Mindblowing.

Harper lost count of the number of times he sent her over the edge that night.

When it was all over, she felt like she was floating. Her body felt so weak, and her heart so full. She curled up into Devin’s arms, sighing as she rested her head against his chest.

“Holy shit.” She breathed. “That was amazing.”

“Mmm… It was.” Devin’s voice was thick and sleepy. “And you were worried about disappointing me.” He teased, planting a soft kiss against her forehead.

Harper giggled. “Yeah, well, I’m sure it was still nothing compared to that orgy, huh?”

She felt his body shake with laughter beneath her. “Will you quit it with that orgy thing?” Harper lifted her head, looking up at him for a moment as he continued. “It was fun and all, but… I don’t think I’d do it again.”

“Good.” She smiled playfully. “Because I don’t wanna share.” She pressed her lips against his bare chest as she spoke. “I want you all to myself.”

“Me too…” He whispered. “You’re all mine.”

Harper closed her eyes, her smile widening. “All yours.” She agreed.

Harper leaned forward then, pressing her forehead against his and letting Devin’s warmth wash over her.

Her heart was bursting to the brim with happiness — more happiness than she’d felt in a long, long time.

And, for the first time she could remember, it felt like maybe she deserved it.
