5.22: Way to Go

Well, I guess this is how it ends. Starving to death in my crappy little apartment. What a way to go, huh? And just when things were finally getting good again!

I decided to suck it up and talk to Remi and River after what happened at the party last weekend. It was so damn embarrassing… But I knew I had to do it. I mean, I couldn’t avoid them forever, right? And it actually went way better than I thought it would.

They just kinda laughed it off, believe it or not. Apparently most of the people there were too drunk to care, or even notice, really. And Remi swears that the guy and girl I walked in on thought it was hysterical the next day… But I still hope I never have to see either one of them again.

The only thing Remi and River gave me a hard time about was having to clean it up… And I can’t exactly say I blame them. Pretty sure I’ll owe them for the rest of my life after that one. But I guess it could have been way worse. I was pretty sure they’d never want to talk to me again, so I’ll take it.

And I’ve actually talked to a couple of other people from the party too… Not going out of my way or anything, but when I run into them in the hallway or on my way to work or something. So far only one person said anything about what happened… And he somehow thought it was awesome, apparently. He kept telling me it was “epic” and saying I’m a “legend”… Um, okay?

I guess the good news is that I’m not a total social outcast… Yet.

I mean, the guy next door to me (Eun, I guess?) is still acting kinda weird. Still scary. Still not saying a word to me. But I swear to God, I’ve caught him watching me a few times. Just kinda staring when I walk by and stuff. It’s so damn weird.

At first I thought it might be because of my scar. I mean, I’m used to it. Sometimes new people like to stare a lot… Which is annoying as hell, but I get over it pretty quickly. But he’s seen me a few times before, and he never seemed to notice or care before. So why the hell is he so interested all of a sudden?

Laurel and Damion are still pretty cool, at least. They even invited me over for a beer at their place the other night, and they gave me some food to take home with me. Apparently Laurel’s on this crazy vegan kick and she pressured Damion into trying it too. They gave me all kinds of cookies and chocolate and snacks they couldn’t eat anymore.

01-09-17_8-01-08-pm

Those lasted me a while, but they’re gone now.

And that’s why I’m pretty damn sure I’m going to starve.

I just sent in my rent check the other day. I have less than 10 euros left in my account, and I don’t get paid again until next week.

The only edible thing left in the entire apartment is three boxes of macaroni and cheese Laurel gave me. But it’s not the kind you can make in the microwave… You have to cook it on a stove.

01-09-17_7-12-52-pm

And yeah, that stove my landlord ordered finally came in a few days ago… But it’s not like I was ever gonna use it. Maybe if it was electric or something, it wouldn’t be so bad to try it. But a gas stove? With fire? I practically flinch just walking by the stoves at work. And I never actually stayed in the kitchen when anybody used the stove back at home.

I can’t even imagine trying to use one myself.

I know how ridiculous that sounds, but I can’t help it. Ever since I was little, I just can’t deal with fire. Stoves, fireplaces, bonfires, matches… Even seeing flames on TV just gives me the creeps. Hell, we don’t even light candles on my birthday cake. Poor Tante Joce learned the hard way, back when I turned six. I flipped the second I saw the flames.

What other choice do I have though? Sit here and literally starve? Go beg Remi and River to let me eat there until I’m paid again? Dig through the dumpster out back for scraps?!

I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday morning. I don’t even have enough money to buy lunch at school anymore! I have a shift Tuesday night, so I can snag something for free from the kitchen then, if I’m desperate…

But what am I supposed to do until then?

  1. Looks like nothing but positives points today for Zayne! Sadly I don’t count complaining as a strike otherwise he would have hit negatives last week. Which is good cause he was 2 points away from hitting negatives! And congrats on using a stove. I’ve only cooked 10 times in my whole life and 3 of them I gave someone food poisoning, 5 were just not edible, and the two that were I just didn’t like because I’m a picky eater😆
Hey suspicious neighbor Psycho called he wants his creepy vibes back😝

  2. Yes, it’s all well and good that Zayne is getting over his fear of stoves, and made himself mac and cheese.

But what about the next time he’s in a bind like this? I bet Laurel won’t give him any more mac and cheese or what have you. Then he’s in real trouble.

Too bad his pride won’t let him admit he needs help.

  3. I see growth, Zayne! I’m curious as to what Eun’s malfunction is…hopefully we’ll find out soon!!

PS. I’m hopeful with the release of the next pack, we’ll get an update to paranormal…=D =D

    1. Definitely a bit of growth! ^_^ And we will learn a bit more about Eun soon 🙂

I am hoping for a new PNN update soon!!! I definitely plan on checking out the vampires and seeing how I can incorporate them into the story! (Especially since we have already established that Juniper has some vamp-y neighbors!)

  4. He faced his fears! Way to go Zayne! I get it though. When you lose your parents to a fire and almost die yourself in said fire, you’re bound to stay away from Any kind of flame ever. I’m so proud of him 🙂

    1. Hahahaha I’m glad you liked that 😂 I figure some of the dumb college kids would find the story awesome, rather than embarrassing hehe

And yes! This was a big step for Zayne 🙂

  5. Aw he’s so brave! Good for him!!!
And in my experience with drinking, it’ll be Zayne’s turn to hold somebody’s hair or clean up some puke soon enough and it’ll all even out!

  6. Awwww. Yay Zayne for getting over his fire fear (a little bit). Loved the picture of terrified Zayne and his cake. Love how we are getting insights into those past years this green around. Really fun!

  7. Creepy neighbor checking Zayne out…

But hey. Conquer those fears, kid! Show the stove who’s boss! And enjoy the mac ‘n cheese.

Hopefully he’s got enough mac and cheese to last him for a while. Maybe he’ll be more careful with his money after this?

Who am I kidding? He’s still got a lot to learn…

    1. I think the mac and cheese will be okay for a bit… But you’re right — he’s gotta learn to manage his money better! Yikes haha

  8. The creepy neighbour has me really worried with all the staring, that can’t be good!! I’m thinking he’s watching Zayne’s every movement and is planning something! Is it just me or has Zayne lost weight? He’s looking pretty thin. Kudos to him for conquering his fear of the stove! I was so scared it would catch on fire! So glad it didn’t, that would have really traumatized him!! I really enjoyed this chapter! Couldn’t he go home for a meal and visit his family. Or is he purposely staying away in case he’s too tempted to want to move back home?
I’m curious to see how long this lasts. I think the only thing that’ll make Zayne swallow his pride and go home is if something bad happens to him. Hmm, like creepy neighbour dude.

    1. I promise we will learn more about what’s going on with the creepy neighbor soon! And yes, Zayne is really just too proud to go home and ask for any sort of help. Darn stubborn kid! 😛

  9. Aw, I feel bad for Zayne. I completely understand him not being okay with fire. I’m proud of him for cooking on the stove, that must have been hard. But only having 10 euros for the week? Maybe it’s time to tell Joce that he’s having trouble. :/

    1. If he weren’t so damn stubborn, he would agree with you! But unfortunately Zayne is very set on being independent and not asking for any help :-/

  10. Also, to add to my comment because I just thought of it. I hate gas stoves. I have one myself. I accidentally left the oven mitt too close to it once, and caught it on fire. Dumb me picked it up and ran it to the sink to put the fire out XD

    1. BabySteps for Zayne! 😀 And LOL They’re brother and sister, and apparently he likes to let his sister boss him around? 😛 (Or maybe she does all the cooking so he’s kinda forced to try hehe)

  11. Aww Zayne is such a cutie! I’ve never liked mac & cheese…and the first time I had to make it while babysitting I put the pot in the microwave cause I didn’t know how to make it. Props to Zayne for being smarter than me!
