5.11: Not The Worst

Welcome to the teen arc! 🙂 HUGE thank you to JoieWilder, who made some MAJOR renovations/additions to the Rosebrook house for Gen 5. It looks gorgeous! Since the Rosebrooks are millionaires, I guess it was about time they got a fancy 😛 And this will probably be the last big renovation we see in this legacy.

Now sit back and enjoy the “real” start to Gen 5! 😀

—————————–

Time to break in my new birthday present, I guess.

Damn, it already feels really weird. The spine on this thing is way too stiff. I had to break it just to get this thing to open more than like, an inch. And the pages are so thick. It’ll be a pain in the ass to flip through this thing.

12-12-16_5-22-20-pm

I don’t see what was wrong with just sticking with my old one. There had to be like fifty blank pages left in it. And yeah, it was really just some old notebook I was supposed to use for chemistry class last year… But it worked just fine for me. Why bother with one of these fancy journals anyway?

But Tante Joce got it for me. And she was so excited about it – she was going on and on about how her Onkel Stefan gave her a journal when she was sixteen and how it’s like a family tradition or something. She’s always so damn sentimental all the time. So how could I not use the thing? It’d break her heart… And I can’t do that to Tante Joce.

12-12-16_5-20-47-pm

(Today was my birthday, by the way. In case you hadn’t figured that out already.)

So yeah, it was a pretty nice birthday, I guess… Minus everyone treating me like I was turning twelve instead of sixteen. I had to put up with the usual babying, courtesy of Tante Joce and grandpa. But I always like it when everyone gets together. Remi, River, Rory, Tante Clara and Onkel Florian, Onkel Auggy and Onkel Noah… I mean, I see them all the time. But together? Not so much.

12-12-16_5-43-04-pm

Even Elliot and Emma came inside to say hi and give me a card when they dropped off the girls. That was kinda nice, I guess. They brought Adam in with them too. That little guy is SO damn funny. He cracks me up.

Charlie likes to bitch all the time about what a pain in the ass he is, but I don’t think she realizes how lucky she is. I’ve always wanted a little brother, for as long as I can remember. I’d even settle for a half-brother I only see a few days a week, like Adam.

12-12-16_6-08-31-pm

But seeing as my parents have been dead for eleven years… Yeah, not happening. Ever.

Oh well.

After we finished dinner, I met up with Dom and we went out to that little bar Charlie’s always telling us about. Alone. Now THAT was cool. It’s really nice to not feel like I’m a little kid anymore. Even though my family still likes to treat me that way sometimes. Okay, all the time. Ugh.

12-12-16_6-48-33-pm

Anyway, that’s probably the coolest part about being sixteen now – I can actually go out with my best friend and get a beer on my own. Still can’t have any of the hard stuff for a couple more years though. It’s such a stupid law. I’ll have to ask Onkel Auggy who the hell came up with it. So that part kinda sucks, I guess.

But Remi and River were totally awesome, just like always. They snuck me this HUGE bottle of vodka as part of my present.

12-12-16_5-51-11-pm

Tante Joce is gonna FLIP if she finds out, but I made sure to find a good hiding spot for it. She and grandpa have some kinda date night planned for tomorrow, and everyone else goes to bed so early… Perfect chance to crack it open. And share with the girls, of course.

Me, Charlie, and Alex have been sneaking beers out of the fridge since I was like twleve, so we’re pretty good at being lowkey about this sorta thing. Not Tony though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her touch a drop of alcohol. Ever. I love her, but she can be such a goody-two-shoes about stuff like this. Not goody enough to tell on us though, so I guess that’s something.

12-12-16_5-57-48-pm

Maybe the three of us can convince her to try a shot tomorrow…

Ha! I think I’d pay to see that!

12-12-16_5-25-27-pm

So yeah, overall it was a pretty good day. Definitely not the worst birthday I’ve had…

But not the best either.

  1. Yay! I got one prediction right and one wrong that’s a good start. Drinking beer since he was twelve interesting! Cool older cousins giving a sixteen year old vodka. Adults unaware of unseated drinking or aware but letting it slide. Oh I see many dramatic adventures in your future my adorable rebellious prince! And of course Adam is adorable! Yes I can see new possibilities coming from this first teen arc post can’t wait😆

    1. Hahaha yeah, Germany has unusual drinking laws. With parental permission, you can start drinking wine/beer at 14, then wine/beer WITHOUT permission at 16, and finally hard alcohol at 18. Remi and River are just giving him a head start 😉

I’m glad you’re excited for this arc 😀 I am too! Thanks for reading ^_^ (And yes, you predicted Adam correctly! :P)

        1. Hahaha same in the US (except you can’t drink ANYTHING if you’re under 21, so you even need older friends to get beer for you haha) So it seemed reasonable Zayne would have a similar experience 😉 Hopefully Joce doesn’t find that bottle of vodka though. She’s a pretty protective mother 😛

          1. Canada’s a bit werid there’s no Federal law over how old you can be.. So you could be 18 in one province (Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec) and 19 in n (BC, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, PEI, Saskatchewan, and Yukon)

            1. I’m from canada too! And I was definitely having drinks with my friends and my parents didn’t mind if I had a beer or a daiquirie or something hahaha

              1. Yeah and Joce and Mark are much the same — they don’t have an issue with the kids drinking a beer or glass of wine or something… I’m just not sure how they’d feel about the vodka hehehe

              2. My mom and I are teeltotalers (I can’t really stand taste of alcohol even as a child mixed with other stuff). But our church is also teetotalers it has to do with the Christianity unit that was the “Parent” of what came to be the United Church of Canada. And its “Parent” church (ie Methodist) was connected to something called Tempest movement (which was responsible in both the U.S. and Canada for the Prohibition). Sorry for the little history lesson!!

  2. Don’t you DARE bully Tony into drinking. She’s the only sensible out of the lot of you. If you do, I will take a very strong disliking to you. To be fair, I have already because CONSUMING ALCOHOL AT YOUR AGE IS NOT OK! Particularly since it seems like you’re going to make a habit of it. Especially breaking laws. Very silly boy, you are. I’m not surprised you’re babied.

Mean, I know, Citizen. Don’t take it personally. Tony is my favourite character at the moment, because she is the only one with a brain. I like Alex, though. He’s sweet. Although, I love your writing as always, it’s a joy to read. 🙂 Can’t wait for the next update!

    1. Hahaha I see you have very strong opinions about this! I think you’re being a little overly-judgemental. Lots of teenagers experiment with alcohol. It happens 🙂

Well, with the drinking laws in Germany, they’re allowed to drink beer/wine at 14 (as long as it’s with a parent) and then without a parent at 16. So in the eyes of the law, drinking alcohol at their age IS okay. The only thing that’s illegal is hard liquor that has a higher alcohol content (which, admittedly, the Vodka is haha).

      1. I probably am being over-judgmental but most teens in Britain don’t drink. Only a small percentage do, and do so underage too, which is what these teens are doing. That’s why I’m being horrible. Sorry.

        1. In Germany it’s pretty normal for teens at their age to drink beer AND harder stuff. Only a small percentage of teens don’t drink but I don’t think it makes us bad people 😀 I agree that bullying people into drinking is bad though, it should be everyone’s own choice

  3. Gosh, you guys need to lighten up about the booze. The Rosebrooks are European, this is pretty normal in our parts. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t have had alcohol at Zayne’s age. They’re just being regular teens, not outlaws, sheesh.

It’s nice to see how close all the cousins are, must be nice to have a bunch of relatives your age! That look in the last picture though… broke my heart 😦

    1. Hahaha thank you! Even in the US with our stricter drinking laws, teens do dumb things and experiment with alcohol. It’s basically in the definition of “teenager” 😛

And yes, I love how close they are too 🙂 But yeah, that last picture 😦 I don’t imagine Zayne has many memories of his parents (since he was so young when they died), but since his birthday is at the end of July and his parents died in August (I know I never said this in the story, but it’s the CitizenErased-headcanon haha), I imagine one of the last and most vivid memories he has of them was his 5th birthday. So I imagine every birthday is quite painful for him (and probably will be for the rest of his life 😦 )

  4. What a great start to the teen years! I completely understand that they’re following German drinking laws, so it’s legal for them to have alcohol.

In China, the legal drinking age is 18, which was enforced in 2006. Hong Kong’s drinking age is the same, although this applies at restaurants, bars, and clubs, where liquid runs licenses are required. Macau had no set legal drinking age.

  5. Personally this seems pretty par for the course. And as a teenager in Britain, I’d say that quite a few teens do drink. I have like one friend who’s a Tony about it (i.e. won’t drink but won’t tell on others).

Remi and River are great cool older cousins, and I like how close Zayne is to them.

  6. I loved this chapter. ❤️ And all of those Rosebrooks! Dang this family is huge. 😳 Elliott and Emma look so happy! That is a good thing!

Zayne did look sad in the last picture. But overall he seems to have adjusted well and obviously loves Jocelyn very much. He seems to adore the triplets like they were his sisters and was nonplused when mentioning the date night. He seems very much like a normal 16 year old – so far.

Curious about that date night. How long has it been? Are they living together and this is just a typical married couple date night? I certainly hope so. Otherwise why the heck are they just dating?!?!? 🙄 Surly Markyln isn’t going to have to deal with kids that don’t approve now. Ugh!

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed this one! And yes, they are a big, happy/loving family 😀 (including Elliot and Emma! Haha)

Mark and Jocelyne are living together and in a relationship but aren’t married (and likely never will be, that’ll come up eventually haha) But it’s not like they’re “just dating” ether haha. They are… partners? Not sure what to call it haha

      1. Shew!!! Too bad they don’t get married. I suppose as long as they are together it’s okay. Lots of people live together. Regardless, we just really need them to be happy! They suffered so much to finally be together. I wonder if Zayne might be the reason or even the girls now that they are teens. As you said, we will find out later. 😏

  7. Hahaha yes I remember pretty many people in my class secretly getting vodka from their friends when they turned 16. 😂 For me it was different. I got a lot of Wine from my family when I turned 16.

  8. Some weird booze laws in Germany there. Interesting…

There are so many people! This family is huge! 😀

I really feel for Zayne. Hopefully, he’ll also be able to look back on his parents with happiness in mind, not just the sadness that came with their deaths.

    1. Haha definitely unusual laws! They start ‘me young, I guess? Haha

And yes, the family is enormous. But in a good way haha. I actually have an updated family tree I’ll be posting with tomorrow’s chapter!

And yeah, memories of his parents will always be so bittersweet 😦

    1. Thanks, Cece! ^_^ Zayne definitely has a streak of teenage rebellion that’s not quite as… pronounced as Clara’s 😛 I’m really enjoying writing him so far. Thanks so much for reading 😀

  11. I’m from Danmark, and Even though we Are more relateret about drinking here in Europe, i Don’t knowhow anybody Who would give a 12 year old a beer in Theis lunch og! That is definitely not normal and very much frowned upon. It would probably be okay for Them to have a sip.
