4.4: Fame

So… remember that big audition I wrote about last week?

They posted the cast list today…

Guess who got the LEAD!

I seriously didn’t even believe it at first. I was SURE there was some mistake. But I checked and double checked and even triple­ checked… And my name was right there: Jocelyne Rosebrook – Jo March.

Can you believe I actually screamed, right there in the hallway? As if everyone else doesn’t already think I’m a total nutjob…

Thank God Joel and Mei were there. Everyone’s learned by now not to make fun of me in front of them, ever since Joel punched Curtis Weber last year for calling me a “goody two-shoes bitch”. Joel was suspended for a week – and coach almost kicked him off the track team.

To this day, he still tells me it was worth it.

Anyway, Joel took Mei and I out for ice cream to celebrate – she got cast as Amy, which means we get to have a fight scene and everything! Is it weird that we kinda can’t wait?

At first I thought my drama teacher was a little crazy for picking this weird old American play. Much as I love being onstage, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to audition this year. But now I’m so glad Mei convinced me to.

I’m just hoping some of my luck will rub off on Luc. He’s had a few auditions of his own lately. His band is getting so desperate for a gig. And now that they have a few original songs in their catalog, they’re finally ready. Luc seems pretty confident about this most recent opportunity. It’s down at one of the old cafés in the city center. Not exactly Windenburg Stadium or anything, but hey — it’s a start.

Honestly I think he’s just excited to be part of a band at all, no matter where they play. I was kind of shocked when Florian first asked Luc to join him and his buddies in their band. I mean, they’re all so… cool. And so much older than us too.

But I’ve gotta admit, my Bruder’s pretty good. And when Oma found out Florian’s band was looking for a guitarist, she knew exactly who to recommend.

It’s kind of funny, isn’t it? My Bruder and I are both so into performing. Opa always likes to joke about it – How the Rosebrooks are all destined for fame and greatness. My great-grandfather, the writer. My Papa, the athlete. Lucas, the rock star. And me, the actress. Maybe Gus needs to get into politics or something. He definitely has the charisma for it.

“I think I ruined your poor Oma’s chances by making her a Klein.” Opa always likes to tease.

Poor Clara. She’s not a Rosebrook either.

I wonder if that means all she’s destined for is that ridiculous blog.
