Epilogue: Don’t Look Back

06-13-16_9-22-36 PM

Don’t cry. Stefan told himself for what felt like the thousandth time. Don’t make this harder for them. He watched as his family spoke softly to one another, smiling slightly from time to time, or letting out a half-hearted burst of laughter.

I’m gonna miss them so damn much. He thought sadly.

06-13-16_9-24-13 PM

Stefan shuffled his feet slightly as the conversation fell into yet another lull. His family had been lingering by the security gate with him for the past several minutes, forcing small talk as they fought to prolong the inevitable.

He bit his lip as he glanced up at the clock on the wall behind him. This is really it… Stefan suddenly felt like he was going to be sick. He couldn’t be quite sure if it was from nerves or excitement. Maybe both.

06-13-16_9-24-42 PM

“Guys…” He said softly. “I’ve really gotta go.”

“No!” Clara was the first to speak. “Stefan, no. Don’t go.” The little girl begged her older brother. “Stay. You have to.”

06-13-16_9-26-22 PM

Stefan crouched down to face her. “You know I can’t.” He said gently. “But guess what? You guys are gonna come visit me in just a couple months. Won’t that be cool?”

06-13-16_9-27-43 PM

She shook her head slowly. “I don’t wanna visit. I just want you to stay here.” Clara whined.

A soft sigh escaped Stefan’s lips. “I know you do.” His heart sank. “But you won’t even have time to miss me. We’ll visit, write letters… and talk on the phone all the time.”

Jocelyne stepped forward hopefully toward her uncle. “Every day?” She asked softly.

06-13-16_9-34-23 PM

“Sure.” He laughed. “Come here, munchkin.” Stefan gave his niece a kiss on her cheek. “I’m gonna miss you so much.”

“Me too.” The little girl sniffled softly.

06-13-16_9-43-23 PM

Lucas walked forward, a small pout on his lips as his uncle pulled him into a hug.

“Don’t forget to drive your Papa extra crazy for me when I’m gone, okay?” Stefan whispered in Lucas’ ear before pulling away from him.

06-13-16_9-50-55 PM

“I will.” The little boy promised. “Don’t worry.”

“Be safe, Stefan.” Colette stepped forward as the tearful trio of children scurried away. “We love you.”

06-13-16_10-02-58 PM

Stefan kissed his sister-in-law’s cheek. “Thanks. I love you too.”

“You’ll call us as soon as you land, right?” Jade asked her grandson softly.

06-13-16_10-03-56 PM

“Of course, vovó.” Stefan forced a smile. With each farewell, he felt his heart breaking more and more.

Alex moved toward him, clapping his grandson gently on the shoulder. “I’m so proud of you, Stefan. We’ll talk to you soon.” He smiled.

06-13-16_10-05-35 PM

Stefan nodded. “Thanks, grandpa.” His voice was barely above a whisper.

“Good Luck, Stefan. Go kick some ass over there.” Jonas beamed, giving his stepson a wink. “Er… butt, I mean.” He corrected himself, glancing sideways at the children.

Stefan laughed heartily. “Will do. Thanks, Jonas.” He hesitated just for a moment. “I love you.”

06-13-16_10-11-57 PM 06-13-16_10-14-41 PM

He felt the hot sting of tears in his eyes as he pulled away. And looking at his mother’s face did nothing to help.

“Oh, Mama.” He smiled warmly at her through his tears. “Come here.”

06-13-16_10-16-37 PM

Mari clung tightly to her son and buried her face in his shoulder, weeping softly. “I’m so proud… You know that, right?” She choked out through her tears. “And I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Mama.” Stefan felt a few stray tears creep down his cheeks. “I’ll be back to visit before you know it. Okay?”

06-13-16_10-15-55 PM

At last, she pulled away from him, nodding as she wiped away her tears with the back of her hand.

And that just leaves…

06-13-16_10-17-37 PM

Stefan opened his mouth to speak… But no words would come. What could he possibly say? How could he find the words to say goodbye to his brother? His twin? His best friend in the entire world?

In the end, Stefan didn’t have to say a single word.

06-13-16_10-18-12 PM

And neither did his brother.

06-13-16_10-19-17 PM

Stefan took a deep, shuddering breath as he wiped away the last of his tears. It was now or never. No going back now. “I love you guys.” He said softly. “I’ll talk to you soon, okay?”

06-13-16_10-22-27 PM

Stefan gave his family one final wave before turning away. And as he walked away through security and toward his gate, Stefan did not look back, not even once. No matter how much he wanted to.

I can’t look back. He told himself firmly. Not anymore.

06-13-16_10-28-59 PM06-13-16_10-31-06 PM

The only way now was straight ahead.

As much as it still hurt to think of all he was leaving behind him, Stefan felt a rush of excitement as he thought of all that lay ahead of him… A new job. A new home. A new life.

And Stefan couldn’t wait to see what it would bring.

Author’s Note: And that’s a wrap! Generation Three has come to a close!

I feel so many mixed emotions right now, but mostly I’m just EXCITED!

I would like to take this time to clarify/officially announce that Tobi is indeed the heir of this legacy, and Jocelyne will be taking over as our Gen 4 heiress in the next chapter!

    1. Hahahaha yeah, it’s probably not a surprise to most people 😛 I still love Stefan. But leaving was what was right for him, and much as I love him, I couldn’t bear leaving the rest of the Rosebrooks behind to follow him. So we will continue on with Jocelyne, Lucas, Auggy, and Clara (who is an honorary member of Gen 4, even though she’s technically Gen 3 😛 )

  1. This is both a very sad and very exciting chapter. Sad because he’s leaving and saying goodbye to everyone (does Stefan not have any friends?) and exciting because he gets to start a new life in Willow Creek! I loved the update. It was a great end to gen 3! And i look forward to hear from him in the thoreau legacy, even though that is far into the future 😛

    1. Stefan never had a lot of friends 😦 He did have a few though, and I imagine he said his goodbyes to them off-screen!

      Thank you for reading! ^_^

  2. A new home, a new job, a new life, a new tortourer….er writer. 🙂 I shall wait impatiently to see what his future brings. I love that optimistic smile of his at the end.

I just love the shots with Tobi saying goodbye! Just standing there all pouty. Perfectly matches the words on the screen. Great chapter, and wow those shots! The first one of him rolling away with his luggage is epic!

    1. Hopefully Joie will not be COMPLETELY cruel to him? But we’ll see hahaha 😛 I’m glad you liked my screenshots too! I love that luggage one, I must say 🙂 Thank you Rae!

  3. Smiley Stefan! I’m happy for him, and…yeah, Tobi would have to be the heir if Generation 4 is next chapter. I’m excited for Jocelyne to take over. She seems like she’ll be super-sweet, kind and a bit innocent…

    1. Thanks! I’m glad you’re happy for him ^_^ And your analysis of Jocelyne is pretty good 😉 You’ll see for yourself soon! Thanks for reading 😀

  4. I’m excited that there will be more crossovers in the future with the Thoreau’s. I didn’t realize there was confusion over who the heir for this gen was? Awesome chapter. The airport photos were really realistic.

    1. Thank you Rainy! 😀 I didn’t think there was much confusion either, but I did have some people still asking so I figured I should make it 100% clear haha

Thanks so much for reading 😀

  5. Well. I am gonna miss Stefan. He is probably my favourite character of gen 3. *sniffs* Send the readers a postcard! And YES! Jocelyne! I do love her the most out of the three.

“Don’t forget to drive your Papa extra crazy for me when I’m gone, okay?”
    Hahahahahahaha I laughed so much!

(Also, I just noticed how much Jocelyne as a teen looks like Mari. She has the same mouth.)

    1. I’m gonna miss him too 😦 But we’ll still see him from time to time, and I know Joie has big plans for him in her story (but I am sworn to secrecy there :P)

And yes, Jocelyne looks SO much like Mari! She’s very beautiful, and has the same mouth for sure 🙂

  6. Awwh this is so bittersweet… I’m super excited for generation 4, but I’m gonna miss Stefan! Even though he annoyed me to death sometimes, I’ve grown quite fond of him over the last few chapters. I look forward to seeing him with the Thoreaus 🙂

And I’m also incredibly curious to find about Jocelyne and her siblings! I think I started reading your legacy when you were already on generation 3 (or maybe right before then), so this feels like the first generation I’ll get to follow start to finish!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I will miss him too 😦 But I’m very excited for Gen 4 as well 😀 And yay for being able to read/follow this one in real-time! ^_^ I hope you like Gen 4. I am having a blast writing it already!

  7. This is one of the few times I’m not reading everyone else’s comments before saying my own, but I just wanted to get this out. So sad for the family, so happy for Stefan. He will be missed. I’m going to miss his voice, offering an almost guaranteed oppositional view from Tobi. Just like Stefan, I’m looking forward. I can’t wait to get to know Jocelyne through the pages in her journal. Time jump now, right?

    1. Thanks Cece ^_^ I am going to miss him a lot too 😦 But we will most definitely hear from him from time to time 🙂

And yes, time jump ahead! I’m very excited 😀

  8. Awww so many mixed feelings! I mean Gen 3 is over, Stefan is gone, Auggy looks so cute, we won’t see Tobi (<3) anymore, Jocelyne looks gorgeous, Gen 4 is coming… I could go one forever!!! I think the main feeling tho is excitement tho! And I know I'm repeating the comments above but damn those screenshots r good! 😀

    1. We’ll see Tobi! 🙂 He’s still writing in Gen 4 and even gets his own plot line at the beginning of the generation ^_^ I’m gonna miss Stefan though 😦

  9. Aww yay we ended on a bittersweet note, didn’t we? It’s sad to see everyone all teary-eyed when he’s leaving but I’m sure deep down their hearts, they’ll be proud of their son/brother/uncle 🙂 You go Stefan! Go live your dream! And we’ll be here waiting to see you whenever you come visit your family during Christmas break! haha 😀

  10. You know, I just realised how similar my family (sims 4) is to this legacy. For each of your characters, there is a parallel character in my family! Coincidence, I think not! 😀

    1. Thank you! ^_^ It will be many months before he’s in Joie’s story unfortunately haha BUT he will be popping up in mine every now and then before then, so we will still get to see him in this story too while we wait for his Thoreau debut ^_^

I’m glad you liked the end of this gen! 😀

  11. I love that you could relate to this! I think leaving behind what you know is always scary, but in the end, you do what’s right! 🙂

  12. Aw, bless them. :3 What a lovely end — they all learned to overcome their doubts and fears (mostly!) I love seeing them all so supportive; it really does show how supporting your family can make the world seem like a little less of scary place! Thank you for sharing your wonderful story with us all! *goes onto Gen 4*

    1. Hahaha I’m glad you were forgiving of them in the end 😛 And I’m glad you liked the end of this generation 🙂 This is exactly what Stefan needed, I think ^_^

Thanks for reading and commenting. Sorry if I get a little defensive sometimes. I love these characters very much haha

  13. Well I guess Stefan got the beginning of a happy ending here! I loved that the family came to accept his decision and moved on. Will most definitely check out Joie’s legacy as well. I started reading it a while ago and I have to comeback to it now and check on Stefan.
Moving to gen 4, I think it’s going to be fun. I foresee Clara giving some headaches to her cousins going through her teen years.

    1. Yes, Stefan’s happy ending is coming ^_^ Stefan hasn’t shown up in Joie’s legacy yet (her timeline and mine are very out of sync) but it’s getting closer! 🙂

Gen 4 will definitely be a roller coaster 😉 Thank you for reading 🙂

  14. ok i know i dont comment on every chapter becauase i too excited to get to the next chapter but since this is the end of the generation i thought i would tell you that i reall enjoyed this story it had so much drama i hated characters then i loved them then i hated them then i loved them i laughed i cried im going to miss stefan and mari and i cant wait to start reading the new generations i have also watched the cursed beauty on yt thanks for the recommendation for that as it was also a beautiful story and i have JoieWilder’s Thoreau Legacy bookmrked to read soon too but i want to finsh yours first after all i started with yours but anyway just wanted to let you know how i felt about your story and how addicted i am to them god i have barely played my game cause i wanted to read it 🙂

  15. Oi, this just made me sad. I get really into my reading, it’s really the pain of being so damn empathetic. It felt like I was saying goodbye to someone. I need cute children chapters to make up for this!!!

  16. I really enjoyed that generation! It was full of many emotions, but at least it ended on a mostly positive note. I’m super excited to start reading this next generation! But I’m definitely gonna need a break to get my emotions together lol!

    1. You’re so fast! Thank you so much for reading, I’m glad you enjoyed this one! Gen 4 is actually my biggest rollercoaster yet (yes, really haha) so be prepared 😛 Thanks again!

  17. Up until now I seriously still did not know if Tobi or Stefan would be the heir (I’ve tried not to look ahead in the chapter index). I could easily see Stefan being the heir from the beginning, because of his underlying unhappiness and conflict. But it’s the end of their generation, and Stefan has to go and find himself – Tobi already has a family, and we don’t want to leave the rest of the family behind after all. But Stefan was my baby and I hope we continue to see him ❤

    1. It was so hard to have to pick just one! But you’re right — Stefan needed time to go and find himself 😦

As for seeing him again… not much 😦 But it’s only partially my fault? Haha There was a planned collaboration with another simlit author but it’s unfortunately pretty much fallen through. He was supposed to show up as a character in another legacy. There’s a small chance it could still happen in the future but it’s already been a year and a half, so… :-/

But once I figured out that things might not actually happen with the collab, I brought Stefan back for a couple of cameos ❤️ So I apologize for his absence 😭

  18. Damn, man, this got me again with some emotions. It’s just sweet and sad. You get so attached when reading/playing legacies. It’s insane almost. Bye bye once again Stefan *waves*
